I was thinking about heroes - what they are and where they come from. I researched it for a while and discovered that the origin seems to be in Greek mythology and heroes were probably demigods. Although there are some religious references to heroes on the web they are from (I would say) misguided teachers. The word does not appear in the Bible and the only word that comes close to it is perhaps "champion", which is used just once to describe Goliath, the Philistine giant fighting against God's chosen people.
Goliath was slain by the very young David - too young to fight in the ranks arrayed against the Philistines. His story is inspiring and I think he would be described as a hero in modern parlance, but from a Biblical perspective his claim to glory came from his unwavering belief in God and his readiness to defend His name. All acts of valour are simply the result of faith in God so all glory is ultimately attributed to Him rather than to the vessel.
After David slew the giant he was praised by the women in the streets, who used to chant "Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands." I suppose this was incipient hero worship and it went ill for David, because Saul, who was the king, heard the saying and it made him, understandably perhaps, quite angry and poisoned his heart against David and he started to plot to have him killed.
I don't think there are (or ever were) any heroes. I came to this conclusion after being entangled in a cult for some years and then attempting to find some man or woman who could guide me. One by one all the people I
Hollywood is keen on heroes and antiheroes, but in the real world people who are acclaimed for having acted courageously and selflessly in some circumstance or another always reject the notion that they are deserving of the hero moniker. Heaven forbid!
So perhaps all heroes

had
idolised or in whom I placed my trust turned out to be empty vessels. I then started researching historic "great" persons and consistently discovered them to be charlatans or worse.Hollywood is keen on heroes and antiheroes, but in the real world people who are acclaimed for having acted courageously and selflessly in some circumstance or another always reject the notion that they are deserving of the hero moniker. So perhaps all heroes
do wear capes. Because they are
actors and that's all
